"Ninth & O Baptist Church / Welcome / history." Ninth & O Baptist Church / Welcome /                                N.p., n.d. Web. 19 June 2011.
When I think of a place, I tend to think of the history of that place. It could be the history
of it in my life, in the community, or in the world. I could give numerous examples off all
three plus more, but this history of my church is one of the things that drew me to it. Its
website states “Our history is rich and blessed.  From before 1916, Ninth & O Baptist
Church has reached out to the local community and the world.  We have sent
missionaries to the four corners of our globe.  We have fed the hungry and clothed the
needy.”  This idea of reaching out to the local community, feeding the hungry and
clothing the needy is a need that I felt the calling to do. It pulls on my need to provide
the public a service, and what better service than to help those in your community that
is in need. This idea of community service is something I have always been drawn too.
When trying to fulfill a need, if the place has no history of filling that need then you
should look elsewhere. When I found this place and found out what it was all about, I
understood it could help fulfill that need for me. Researching these ideas further will
allow me to better understand the context of the past community service work and how
I will be able to help in the future.
